PABLO MARTÍNEZ URIGÜEN, OUR NEW OENOLOGIST
As the new oenologist of the winery, he will strengthen the work in R&D&I , microvinifications development and the quality in winemaking.
In Eguren Ugarte we have reinforced our enology department with the addition of a new head, Pablo Martínez Urigüen, an agronomist engineer with a degree in Enology . This 40-years-old Riojan arrives at the winery with the aim of strengthening the commitment to R&D and Quality that is being made in the care of the land, the vines and the wine in its fermentation and aging. A bet that, along with the sustainability research and knowledge of the vineyards, consolidates Eguren Ugarte family engagement to move forward in the line of Premium Wines, collected in the range of Eguren Wines, like Martín Cendoya, Anastasio o Cincuenta.
Pablo M. Urigüen has extensive experience in the wine industry, in which has been developing his work as oenologist in wineries in Rioja Baja and Rioja Alta since 1999. His latest project has been to Bodegas Luis Alegre for over 11 years. He also has extensive experience in the vineyards microvinification and is convinced that “the care to treat the vines and the land are key in making wine”. Paul M. Urigüen represents a commitment to high quality wines, well cared, looking for a place in the prestigious wine market and internationalization.
Pablo includes a profile that has achieved great success in the white wines, with more freshness and new aromas. While in Bodegas Luis Alegre, he developed the wine that Parker acknowledged as the best White from Rioja. The new oenologist also develop intense work in the search for new styles for the international market at a winery like ours, which already has exported over 60% of production.
With this incorporation, we add a reinforcement to the development of new lines of research for quality improvement that we do in our vineyards. Using pioneering techniques such as airborne remote sensing, research in aromatic precursors and smart harvesters, we are taking precision viticulture a step beyond, harvesting each vine in its peak of ripeness and sorting the grapes of a single vineyard thoroughly on up to four different qualities. In addition, integrated production and systems such as the vegetal covers allow us to control grape growing sustainably. All these measures result in a pursuit of excellence and quality improvement of premium wines of the winery.
