Creation
Iñaki Garcia Ergüin
One of the most prominent figures in the Basque cultural scene. Winner of the National Painting Award from Educación y Descanso in 1958. Co-founder of the Emen Group alongside José María de Ucelay, Agustín Ibarrola and Pelaio Olaortúa. García Ergüin has exhibited in some of the world’s most prestigious institutions and his paintings and engravings are part of renowned collections such as the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and the International House in New Orleans, among others. In 2004, he was honored and recognized as a “distinguished Bilbao native”.
Eguren Ugarte houses one of his works in its barrel room: a 50-meter-long by 3.65-meter-high depiction of the opera Carmen. It is the largest painting ever displayed in a winery.
Innovation
Ignacio Echapresto
A self-taught chef, he learned the secrets of the kitchen from his mother, Rosi. He has received several accolades, most notably the Michelin star he has held since 2010.
At his restaurant, Venta Moncalvillo, he remains deeply connected to the flavors and products of the Rioja region, enhancing them with cutting-edge techniques to create a cuisine that is both traditional and renewed.
